Bringing Hope Beyond the Prison Walls

FBC Community Ministries' Prison Ministries exists to share the hope and love of Jesus Christ with incarcerated adults and youth, as well as returning citizens transitioning back into society. Through Bible studies, worship services, mentorship, and reentry support, volunteers build meaningful relationships that encourage spiritual growth, restoration, and lasting hope.

Volunteer Opportunities

1. In-Person Prison Ministry

  • Serve alongside a team of volunteers in local correctional facilities by helping with Bible studies, worship services, prayer, and small group discussions. Whether you're teaching, facilitating conversations, or simply offering encouragement, your presence can have a lasting impact.

2. Administrative Support

  • Help strengthen the ministry behind the scenes by maintaining volunteer training resources, supporting ministry technology, and assisting with reentry resource information. This opportunity can be completed remotely and does not require entering a correctional facility.
  • Best for: Volunteers with administrative, organizational, or technology skills.

3. Youth Detention Ministry

  • Partner with ministry teams to encourage and mentor youth through Bible studies and faith-based activities at local youth detention facilities. Volunteers work alongside experienced leaders to share hope and build positive relationships.
  • Best for: Adults with a heart for mentoring and encouraging young people.

Getting Started

New volunteers will complete a simple onboarding process, which may include online training and a background check depending on the volunteer role. Requirements are currently being updated by the Alabama Department of Corrections, and specific instructions will be provided when you express interest.

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Flexible scheduling with weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly opportunities
  • Background check required for most in-facility volunteer roles
  • Administrative support opportunities do not require a background check
